Hospital da Ordem Terceira Chiado

The Venerável Ordem Terceira (OFS) de S. Francisco da Cidade

The history of the Hospital da Ordem Terceira do Chiado is intertwined with the History of Portugal. The hospital belongs to the Fraternidade da Venerável Ordem Terceira de S. Francisco da Cidade (a fraternity of the Secular Franciscan Order in Portugal), established in the early seventeenth century, in 1615. King D. João IV joined it during his reign. In 1672, Friar Domingos da Cruz established Infirmaries which would later become Hospital da Ordem Terceira.
